WHOOPING COUGH.
Whooping cough, although causing 44 fewer deaths than the average of
the twenty years 1885-1906, was nevertheless more fatally prevalent than in
the previous three years, having caused 120 deaths, as compared with 74 in
1906, 111 in 1905, and 83 in 1904, with a resulting death-rate of 0.34 per 1,000
of the population. In proportion to their populations, the disease was most
prevalent in the sub-districts of Lower Holloway and Barnsbury, and least
prevalent in Tollington and South-East Islington.
It is also to be noted that, of the 120 deaths, no less than 100 occurred in
the first six months of the year.
