Drugs.—75 samples of drugs were examined, of which 11, equal to 14.7
per cent., were reported by the Analyst as being adulterated.
It is very unsatisfactory to find that one sixth of the samples of lime water
analyzed were not in accordance with the standard of the Pharmacopoeia.
Inasmuch as this drug is very largely used in the summer months in cases
of diarrhoea, it becomes of grave importance that it should be of full strength.
With regard to the 3 tartaric acids, it was found that they contained a
very infinitesimal amount of lead, which was below the standard adopted by
traders and analysts and sanctioned by the Local Government Board.
The
actual proportional quantities being 0.015, 0.012 and 0.012 per cent.
