Parishes, and with the Station which your Committee advises should
be erected, the Vestry will be able to meet the demand for some time
to come in any part of the Parish.
OPINIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.
Having taken these points into careful consideration, and having
regard to the knowledge and information which your Special Committee
has gained since its appointment, your Committee submits the following
opinions and recommendations to the Vestry for approval and adoption:—
1. That the supply of Electric Light can no longer be
regarded as a speculative business; but, on the contrary, must
be admitted to be an undertaking of great benefit to the public
and of assured commercial success.
2. That so soon as the "Islington Electric Lighting
Order, 1893," has been granted by the Board of Trade, and
confirmed by Parliament, it is expedient in the interest of the
Parishioners that the Vestry should take the necessary steps
to carry such order into effect.
3. That it would be both undesirable and expensive to have
more than one central station for the supply of electricity in
the parish, and that therefore steps should be taken to secure
a site as central as possible and of sufficient capacity to
permit of future extensions.
4. That the high tension alternating current transformer
system is best adapted for private lighting in a parish of so
large an area as Islington, inasmuch as the capital expenditure
required for this system would be far less than that of the low
tension or any other recognised system, and on the ground that
outlying or scattered parts of the parish could be supplied
without much additional outlay (compared with the low tension
system) and without any appreciable delay so soon as the
demand for the light in such outlying or scattered districts
justifies such extension.
