UNFLAGGED FOOTPATIIS.
The unflagged portion of footpath in Holloway Road (from
Saint John's Villas to Elthorne Road) was flagged in May, 1889, at a
total cost of £69 0s. 2d. under the powers conferred upon the Vestry
by S. 78 of the Metropolis Local Management Act, 1862, and the cost
levied upon the occupiers of the houses abutting thereon.
The Vestry by resolution dated the 2nd August, 1889, made a
special rate for this purpose upon the occupiers extending over a period
of 10 years and payable in quarterly instalments.
LIGHTING.
The number of public street lamps at Lady Day 1890 was 4,287.
The gas supplied to them cost as last year 2s. 2d. per 1,000 feet.
288 new lamps have been erected during the year. These include
195 of the improved design referred to in the report for 1888-9 which
have been placed in the Holloway Road between the "Nag's Head"
public-house and the "Archway Tavern," throughout the Caledonian
Road, and in Pentonville Road.
The total cost of the gas supplied to street lamps for the
year (including lighting, extinguishing and cleaning) amounted to
£11,901 9s. 3d., as against £11,299 10s. 2d. for the previous twelve
months. £1,620 14s. 6d. was also expended for the purchase of new
columns lanterns and fittings and for general maintenance of street
lamps.
