TO THE VESTRY OF ST. MARY, ISLINGTON.
Your Special Committee appointed with reference to Electric
Lighting, begs to report as follows:—
It has considered the report made by Major T. A. Marindin to the
Board of Trade last year, after the enquiry held by him in connection
with the applications then made for Electric Lighting orders pursuant to
the Electric Lighting Act of 1882 and 1888, and finds that certain
general principles and conclusions were arrived at, and that a model
order in accordance therewith was subsequently approved by the Board.
The model order has been carefully compared by your Committee with
the orders sought to be obtained in Islington during the present session
by the Brush Electrical Engineering Company and the House-to-House
Electric Light Supply Company, and your Committee finds that the
latter are identical with the former, except in certain matters of detail,
which will be alluded to hereafter.
The Brush Electrical Engineering Company's order is one
including in its area, Hampstead, Shoreditch, St. Pancras, Clerkenwell,
St. Luke's, Marylebone, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Hackney and
Stoke Newington, as well as Islington. It makes no provision for
generating stations, nor does it schedule any streets in which within
the space of two years, as required by the model order, mains are to be
laid. It only provides for a deposit of £1,000 for the whole of the area
included in the order, and contains a clause (not in the model order)
authorising the Company to transfer the order (when obtained), on
such terms as the Board of Trade may approve.
The House-to-House Electric Light Supply Company's Order only
applies to the Parishes of Islington and Hornsey. It makes no provision
for generating stations, but schedules the following streets, viz. :
High Street, Upper Street, Holloway Road, Upper Holloway Road,
Highgate Hill, Essex Road, Hornsey Road, Hornsey Rise, Crouch End,
Seven Sisters Road (part of), Caledonian Road (part of), Camden Road,
for compulsory laying of mains within two years. It also provides for a
deposit of £1,000 only in respect of the area affected by the Order.
