It will be gathered from these several conclusions that your
Committee, although they find that the statements contained in the
"Northern Light" as to the delivery of forage in Vestry carts at the
Cornwallis Road Workhouse are correct, yet are of opinion that such
forage was paid for by Mr. Furlong; but while thus exonerating
Mr. Furlong from the allegation of appropriating to his own use the
Vestry stores, they cannot but consider that he exhibited great indiscretion
when, being Chairman of the Dusting and Slopping Committee,
he permitted his forage to be stored and cut in the Vestry Depot and
the Vestry carts to be used for its transport to the Cornwallis Road
Workhouse.
In conclusion the Committee desire to record their disapproval
of the action of the responsible officials of the Dusting and
Slopping Department in 1886 in placing the time of the staff,
which was paid for by the Vestry, and likewise the Vestry plant,
at the occasional disposal of an individual Vestryman.
All which is submitted.
SAMUEL RAYSON,
Chairman.
