DRUGS.
Several samples of drugs were examined, and all were found
to have been of good quality with the exception of the sample of
Spirit of Nitrous Ether (Sweet Spirits of Nitre), which was of
poor quality.
BREAD, FLOUR, Ac.
The remaining samples were all certified to be "Not
adulterated."
SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACT AMENDMENT ACT.
I cannot conclude this report without again pointing out the
urgent necessity for some legislative reforms on the lines
recommended by the Select Committee on Food Products Adulteration.
The need of increased facilities for proceeding against
persons giving false warranties becomes more apparent daily,
indeed unless some steps are taken in this direction, the Sale of
Food and Drugs Act will soon become useless as far as milk is
concerned.
The formation of a Court of Reference for the determination
of standards, etc., is another matter which ought not to be long
delayed, supported as it is by all classes interested in the sale of
pure food.
The attention of the Vestry has already been drawn to these
points, but the serious need for an amendment of the present
law must be my excuse for again mentioning them.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
J. REAR COLWELL.
