The births were 97 less than in the preceding year, and 127
less than the average.

According to the Registrar-Generals Sub-districts in which the births and deaths occurred, they stand thus :—

In each year a number of deaths of parishioners takes place in
General and Special Hospitals, in the Workhouses, and in the
Infirmary, all of which are extra-parochial.
The number of deaths which occurred in the Hospitals was
172; in the Workhouses, 117; and in the Infirmary, 133 , 28
deaths occurring in Lunatic Asylums; and 1 from drowning.
making a total of 450. The numbers, causes, and ages of the
deaths are given in the tables appended to this Report.
The population of the Parish has slightly diminished since the
taking of the census in 1891; but, taking the numbers of the last
census (1896) 66,202, the intra-parochial Mortality amounts to 14
per 1,000; including the Workhouses and Infirmary and the
Hospital deaths, to 22 per 1,000.
The deaths occurring in the outlying portion of the Parish at
Muswell Hill are enumerated with those of the Pentonville
sub-district.
The mortality of all London during the year was 19.8 per
l.000; that of the West districts being, 18.5; of the North districts,
18.2; of the Central districts, 23.8; of the East districts,
23.4; and of the South districts, 18.3.
The number of deaths arising from the principal zymotic
diseases in the Parish in 1895 was 70; 45 less than in the preceding
year.
