Notification of Infectious Diseases.—1,424 Notices
of infectious disease were made in the year, including those notified
more than once:—18 of Small Pox; 747 of Scarlet Fever; 309 of
Diphtheria; 79 of Typhoid Fever; 239 of Erysipelas; 28 of Membranous
Croup; and 1 of Puerperal Fever.
Mortuary.—The excellent Mortuary still continues to fulfil its
most useful purpose. 290 bodies were brought to it during the
year; of these 75 were Holborn Guardian cases; and 215 were
brought from the dwellings of parishioners; iucluding 36 cases of
zymotic diseases. 97 were inquest cases, upon which 60 post
mortems were made.
Inspectors' Reports.—The ever-increasing work of our
intelligent and most active Inspectors is given below.

286 defective drains remedied, 159 of which were reconstructed.
127 gully traps provided.
46 water supplies to w.c.'s reinstated.
148 defective and foul w.c.'s remedied.
43 Extra w,c.'s provided or occupiers reduced.
91 Foul cistern and defective fittings, including
40 water supplies to houses reinstated.
154 houses, rooms, and workshops cleansed.
43 cases overcrowding abated.
59 dustbins provided.
27 defective roofs and gutters repaired.
9 smoke nuisances abated.
4 dead bodies kept in rooms removed.
11 nuisances from keeping animals abated.
21 dung receptacles provided.
3 houses closed as unfit for human habitation.
23 accumulations of dung, rubbish &c., removed.
4 percolations of water remedied.
54 illegally occupied kitchens emptied or made to comply with the
Act.
