Local Government Board for the transfer of the
detached portion of the Parish of Clerkenwell to
the Parish of Hornsey, and hereby requests the
Yestry to take the necessary steps to enable the
ratepayers to give notice to the Local Government
Board, in writing, of their objection, as required by
sec. 2 of the Poor Law Amendment Act, 1876."
" That in the event of such Order being carried
into effect, provision should be made for a recoupment
by the Parish of Hornsey of the balance of
the outlay by the Parish of Clerkenwell for surface
drains, road repairs, &c."
"That the Hon.D. Naoroji, M.P., be requested to
use his influence with the President of the Local
Government Board to give effect to the foregoing
resolutions."
The Yestry thereupon took steps to obtain the
signatures of one-tenth in number and rateable
value of the ratepayers to an objection to the Order,
and they received, through the rate collectors, the
signatures of 1/274 persons occupying premises at
a rateable value of £82,996. As the number of
ratepayers is about 8,500, and the rateable value
about £370,000, it will be seen that the statutory
proportion of one-tenth was considerably exceeded.
The objection was lodged with the Local Government
Board on the 22nd March, that being within
the three months of the issue of the Order, and Mr.
Naoroji, M.P., was requested to ascertain, if
possible, what course the Local Government Board
proposed to pursue in the matter. The matter was
at this stage at the close of the year to which this
report relates.
