to these terms with the exception of the last, which
they thought too onerous, considering the amount
of the annual payments to be made to the Hornsey
Board. The draft agreement was accordingly returned
and nothing more was heard of the matter
till the 11th December, when a letter was received
from the Metropolitan Board of Works stating
that the Hornsey Local Board had written to them
to know how the Yestry propose to deal with storm
water, and asking what answer they shall return.
The Yestry replied that all the storm water is provided
for with the exception of that which falls on
Colney Hatch Lane, and that that does not enter
the Hornsey Sewerage system.
The next the Yestry heard of the matter, was
the forwarding by their Solicitors of a copy of
correspondence between the Solicitor of the Metropolitan
Board and the Solicitor of the Hornsey
Local Board, by which it appeared that the negociations
were for the present broken off, the Hornsey
Board declining to accept the agreement on the
subject of the storm water, nor would they give way
on the question of the payment by the frontagers
in Colney Hatch Lane of a proportion of the cost
of constructing the sewer.
The alternative of the Vestry agreeing to these
terms appeared to be that the matters would be referred
to the Local Government Board for decision,
and they, therefore, left the matter in the hands
of the Metropolitan Board of Works.
The Metropolitan Board thereupon consented to
the payment by the frontagers in Colney Hatch
Lane, and invited an expression of the Hornsey
Board's opinion as to the manner in which the
storm waters are to be dealt with. The Hornsey
Board replied suggesting that the Vestry should
place a line of pipe along the line of the ditch
which used to form the natural watercourse before
