liberty to have same removed immediately if it
is disapproved of. The Vestry appeared to be
sufficiently safeguarded iu the matter, and were
of opinion that it is desirable to test the utility
of this attempt to deal with a difficult subject.
They therefore decided that, subject to the
necessary agreement being entered into, permission
be granted to erect a Kiosk on Clerkenwell Green,
and such structure has since been erected.
Colney Hatch Lane, Sewerage.—After an
interval of about two years, during which (in 1887)
the Metropolitan Board of Works obtained an Act
to empower them to arrange with the local authority
of one of the adjacent districts for the drainage of
the outlying part of Clerkenwell at Muswell Hill,
to deal with this vexed question, the Vestry in
July, 1888, received a letter from the Solicitor
of the Metropolitan Board of Works stating that
an arrangement has been entered into with the
Hornsey Local Board for taking and dealing with
the sewage of the detached portion of the parish,
and forwarding a draft agreement for the purpose.
That agreement provided that in consideration of
certain payments to be made to the Hornsey Local
Board by the Metropolitan Board of Works, the
Hornsey Board should allow the Vestry and every
owner or occupier to connect their drainage with
the main sewer in Colney Hatch Lane, and that
the Vestry should prevent, as far as practicable,
storm water from entering such main sewer. The
Hornsey Board substituted for the first part of
the agreement a proviso that they should make any
necessary connections with their sewer at the
expense of the Vestry, owner or occupier, and they
also inserted a proviso that owners or occupiers
connecting with the sewer in Colney Hatch Lane
should contribute a sum towards the original cost
of construction of such sewer. The Vestry agreed
