The duties of sanitary authorities in relation to the sanitation
of factories are few, and are limited mainly to the enforcement
of suitable and sufficient sanitary accommodation for
factory employees.
Eighteen new factory premises were added to the register
during the year, dealing with : (a) engineering, 4; (b) firewood
cutting, 3; (c) toys, 2; (d) printing, 2; (e) lenses, 1; (f)
miscellaneous, 6.
During the year 37 defects were found on factory premises,
for the most part relating to defective or insufficient
sanitary accommodation. In 23 cases it was found necessary
to serve notices under the Public Health (London) Act, 1891,
to remedy defects, all of which were complied with.
