1777 (informal) Bread and butter ' | Consisted of bread spread with p mixture of butter and margarine, the proportion of butter in the mixture being not more than 60%. |
Cafe proprietor warned. He undertook to use butter only in future. | |
1774 (informal) Bronchial mixture | Contained only 0.85% v/v of chloroform instead of the 2.5% declared on the label. |
Warning given. Manufacturers agreed that there should not have been so great a loss in chloroform content. They were taking active steps to ensure that both at time of manufacture and packing chloroform is adequately dispersed and present in full strength. | |
1775 (informal) Condensed milk | Discoloured and thickened due to ageing effect. Not unfit for consumption, but unfit for sale. |
Dealer informed.
There was one prosecution for selling to the prejudice of the
purchaser a loaf of bread which was not of the substance demanded
in that it contained insect webbing etc. A fine of £20. was
imposed and the Council awarded £7.15.0. costs.
A local butcher was given a warning after due consideration
by the Public Health Committee for selling minced meat containing
a piece of bandage.
