The causes and ages at death of the children
who died under the age of 1 year were as follows:—
Gastro-enteritis 6 months.
Marasmus 3 months.
Marasmus 1 month.
Oedema lungs, Congenital Heart Disease 1 week.
Congenital Heart Disease 45 minutes.
Marasmus, Oedema of lungs, Bronchitis 5 months.
Infective Enteritis 5 months.
Marasmus 3 months.
Anencephalus & Spina Bifida 1 hour.
Gastro-enteritis 2 months.
Cardiac muscle failure, Bronchopneumonia
4 months.
Premature 9 hours.
Toxaemia from maternal eclampsia 5 minutes.
Asphyxia, due to convulsion reflex of
central origin 3 months.
Enteritis 3 months.
Intracranial injury 1 day.
Asphyxia, Medullary compression, Oper-
ation for meningocele 3 months.
Hydrocephalus
There were 17 deaths of children under one
year of age, which is a decrease of 4 compared with
the number for the previous year.
Of the infant deaths, 11 occurred in Hospitals
or Public Institutions outside the district of Surbiton.
One of these deaths occurred at 5 minutes, one
at 1 hour, one at 9 hours, one at 1 day, one at 1 month,
one at 2 months, four at 3 months and one at 6
months.
