Diphtheria antitoxin is supplied free of charge
to medical practitioners requiring it for cases
within the district. It is kept in stock at the Public
Health Department, 2, Shalston Villas, and at the
Council Offices, and is available at any time.
Every packet of antitoxin bears the date of
preparation and a date (2 years later) until which
time the contents will be a full unit value. Stocks
are therefore arranged to ensure that the antitoxin
is distributed well within the time limit specified.
Swabbing outfits are also supplied by the
Corporation to general practitioners free of charge.
The outfits are marked chargeable to the Surbiton
Corporation. Of the 178 diphtheria swabs sent by
doctors for examination, only 3 proved to be
positive.
Schick Testing and Immunisation.
Schick testing and the immunisation of positive
reactors has been carried on throughout the year
under review at sessions held twice weekly. Sessions
were held at the Surrey County Council Clinic,
South Place, on Tuesday afternoons, and at various
schools on Friday mornings.
Immunisation consists of three lcc. doses at
weekly intervals of T.A.M. Prophylactic; a final
Schick test is carried out 3 to 6 months after the
final immunising dose.

Four hundred and sixty-three children were treated during the year as follows:—
