outside the district is equal to 10.5 per 1,000 of the population.
The death rate for England and Wales for 1913 is 13.4.

(corrected for age and sex).
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The number of deaths in infants is given below, viz., 62.
This gives a death rate of 84.2 per 1,000 births.
The Notification of Births Act has been adopted, and a
Health Visitor has been appointed. This Act is in force in 390
districts, serving a population of 20 millions and has invariably
been followed by a decline in the Infantile Mortality. In this
district the Act has not been in force long enough to draw any
definite conclusions from work done.
Death Certification still leaves much to be desired in the way
of accuracy and precise nomenclature. Confidential death certificates
should be sent to the M.O.H., and not given to the relatives,
and then perhaps we should get at the truth of things with regard
to death from venereal disease, alcoholism, tuberculosis, cancer, etc.
