Vital Statistics.
The area of the district is 2,518 acres, exclusive of that area
covered by water.
BIRTHS.
The nett number of births registered during the year is 736, being
an increase of 36 compared with last year, and an increase of 38 on
the average for the last 5 years.
The birth rate is 22.07 per 1,000 of the estimated population.
Last year it was 21.8 per 1,000 of the population.
Illegitimacy.
Of the 736 births registered, 26 were illegitimate, or 3.5 per
cent.
The death rate amongst illegitimate children amounts to 116
for every 1,000 born, compared with 84.2 for legitimate infants.
The birth rate for England and Wales for 1913 is 23.9.

DEATHS.
The total number of deaths registered in the district is 294,
but for comparative purposes, certain corrections have to be made.
29 deaths of non-residents have to be deducted, and 85 deaths of
residents who have died in other districts have to be added.
The nett deaths therefore are 350.
