LOWER WARD.
Lancasterian School.
This school has been redecorated both inside and externally. The
dados are of a lighter green than before but are still somewhat too
dark.
Classrooms.—These rooms are warmed by fireplaces and are not
sufficiently heated during cold weather. Room 9 has a gas radiator
only and on cold days the temperature of the room does not rise above
40% F. A stove is required.
Room 1 has rough brick walls and this allows much dust and dirt
to accumulate.
Infants' Department.
Classrooms.—Room 9 is dark owing to the window being obscured
by the wall of the boys' deoartment. The lighting would be improved
by painting the wall white. The ga'lery in this room Tias been removed.
The lavatories are now kept cleaner than before.
Risley Avenue School.
This school is in urgent need of distempering throughout.
Boys' Department.
Lavatory Accommodation.—As there is now a Boys' Central
School equated at Risley Avenue School an additional two hundred boys
will soon be using the existing lavatory accommodation which is even
now inadequate. An additional urinal and at least 6 more W.C.'s should
be provided. The floor of the present urinal slopes towards the entrance
allowing urine to run down on to the playground surface. The woodwork
of a number of W.C. seats is missing.
