Births.—The number of births registered in the Borough
during the year was 8,939 (4,614 males and 4,325 females),
which will be found distributed in the following table. From this
number, however, 91 (39 males and 52 females) have to be deducted
in accordance with the return supplied by the Registrar-General as
belonging elsewhere, bringing the total net births to 8,848. This is
a decrease under last year's net births of 277, but 68 above the
average number during the preceding five years. The birth-rate
for the year was 29.8 per 1,000, while the average birth-rate
during the five years 1909-1913 was 30.0 per 1,000.
