Diarrhœa.—It will be noted that the deaths from Diarrhœa
last year numbered 562, making an annual death-rate of 1.94 per 1,000,
or .5 per 1,000 above the average. Of these no less than 511 occurred
during the third quarter of the year, of which 256 were males and
255 females.
Distributed among the wards of the Borough the deaths vary
considerably, as under:—New Town, 37; Forest Gate, 16; High
Street, 36; Broadway, 24; Park, 18; Upton, 8; West Ham, 56;
Plaistow, 61; Hudsons, 53; Canning Town, 57; Tidal Basin, 71;
Custom House, 74.
The greatest fatality from this disease always falls upon the
young, especially upon those under one year of age, as will be seen
from the list below, where it is shown that of the 511 total deaths
