Public Health Acts Amendment Act, 1907.
The Council obtained from the Local Government Board
and the Home Secretary, Orders empowering the Council to
put in force in the district many of the provisions
contained in the statute.
Two persons have been registered as dealers in old
metal and marine stores, and each was supplied with the
necessary registers.
The Council caused to be left at such houses which
exhibited placards as "Beds," "Lodgers," or "Lodgings to
let," a notice as to the requirements of the Act respecting
"Common Lodging Houses." No occupier applied to be
registered.
Re-drainage of Premises.
By reason of defects existing in several premises, notices
had to be served upon the persons by whose acts, sufferance,
or default the nuisances existed, to make good the defects.
The notices were all complied with, with the exception of
a very limited number of instances, and the Council consequently
entered upon the premises and did the necessary
work.
House Refuse.
The house refuse of the district is collected weekly by
the Council's own staff, and the arrangements in connection
therewith continue to give every satisfaction. Only 4 complaints
were received with respect to non-removal, such complaints
being chiefly due to the collectors not being able to
obtain admission at the proper time. During the year
15,172 cubic yards of refuse, or an average quantity of 48
cubic yards per day, were collected, aud disposed of in the
Refuse Destructor.
