Three other cases made their appearance two being
male adults engaged on the railway and removed to the
Hospital. The last case was an adult female who was
removed to the Cheam Small Pox Hospital. Thanks are
due to the authorities of that Hospital for the assistance
afforded under the circumstances in which I was at that
time placed.
Disinfection of the infected houses, clothes, bedding,
&c., was carried out at the expense of the Council.
The infected houses were also whitewashed and cleansed.
With the exception of the one death mentioned
above all the other cases recovered.
The L.S.W. Railway Company furnished me with
the names and addresses of the whole of their employees,
over 150 in number, who had possibly been in contact
with the two cases before mentioned- The Railway
Company on my advice further issued an Order strongly
recommending that the men for their own sakes and for
the sakes of their families should be re-vaccinated at once.
The District should feel very grateful for the ready
assistance rendered by the said Contractors and Railway
Company generally.
I am pleased to be able to record that a very large
number of persons in the District availed themselves of
the protection afforded them by vaccination or re-vaccination
and it is a fact that not a single case of disease gave
rise to any second case in the District. My thanks are
tendered to the Public Vaccinator for his cordial
co-operation.
