the owner who has only just received my report.,
has informed me that arrangements are being
made for the work to be commenced as early as
possible.
The results attained by the tests that have
been carried out prove the importance and utility
of the Council's resolution. A great responsibility
rests upon those owners of schools, who, by
not replying to the Clerk's letter, have not complied
with the Council's request. I strongly
recommend that the Clerk be again instructed to
write to such owners pointing out to them the
great importance of the matter and again asking
them to give the necessary permission for their
drains to be examined, both in their own interests
and in the interests of public health.
Altogether the drains of 81 houses and
premises have been entirely reconstructed and
brought up to date, and 39 drains have been
cleared from obstruction or repaired.
In every case where a house has been redrained,
a plan of the drains has been prepared,
and filed in the office for future reference.
All drains re-laid are tested with water, and
the soil pipes and internal sanitary fittings with
smoke or air 011 completion of the work.
During the year 171 water tests have been
applied to drains and 175 smoke or air tests have
been applied to soil pipes, ventilating pipes, etc.
