During the year, 80 defective house drains have
been entirely re-laid. In each case a plan of the
work done has been made and filed in the office for
future reference.
Twenty-eight house drains have been cleared
from obstruction or repaired.
Two houses have been provided with separate
surface water drains.
Three cesspools have been abolished, and the
drains connected with the public sewer.
Four overflowing cesspools have been emptied
and cleansed.
Four wet basements have been provided with
subsoil drains and the sites covered with concrete.
One hundred and fifty-four defective brick or
iron traps have been removed, and replaced with
properly trapped gullies.
Four stables have been provided with effectual
drainage.
All drains re-laid are tested with water, and soil
pipes and ventilating shafts with smoke, when the
work is completed.
One hundred and fifty-five water tests were
applied to drains, and 118 smoke tests to soil pipes
and ventilating shafts.
