Inspection of District.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 9'2
of the Public Health Act, 1875, and the General
Orders of the Local Government Board, the district
has been systematically inspected as in previous
years, and all necessary steps have been taken to
enforce the proper observation of the Council's Byelaws
and Regulations, and to secure the abatement of
nuisances where found to exist.
The total number of visits paid to premises
during the year was 2,848, which includes visits to
premises in respect of which complaints of a
nuisance had been received, and those in which
cases of infectious disease had occurred; also visits
to works in progress, inspection of dairies, cowsheds,
bakehouses, slaughterhouses, workshops, etc.
Notices Served.
The notices served as a result of these
inspections amounted to 392.
At the close of the year, nearly all these notices
had been complied with, or the work necessary to
abate the nuisances was in progress.
The following matters have received attention
during the year :—
Overcrowding of Dwelling Houses.
Overcrowding of dwelling houses was dealt with
in two instances as a nuisance dangerous to the
health of the inmates. They were both very bad
