Of the 222 infants, 121 were males and 101 females.
One hundred and sixty eight infants were stated to have
been breast fed. Eight deaths were notified, all of whom had
been entirely breast fed.
Vital Statistics of the District.
Population Estimated in 1913.
The Vital Statistics are based upon an estimate of the
population at the middle of the year. The Registrar-General
estimated the population of the Borough at 33,592, an increase
of 166 over the population for 1912.

Births.
The number of births registered during the year was 616.
Correction must be made for the transferable births from
particulars supplied by the Registrar-General. There were
ten inward transfers and nine outward transfers, leaving the
corrected number of births for the year at 617, as compared
with 598 for the previous year.
Of the 617 births, there were 315 males, and 302 females.
There were 46 illegitimate births.
The birth rate was 18.3 per thousand, as compared with
17.8 for the year 1912.
The rate for England and Wales for the year 1913 was
23'9 per thousand.
Deaths.
The total number of deaths registered in the district
during 1913 was 495. Of these, 85 were those of non-residents,
