In districts like Richmond where the majority of houses
occupied by the working classes are let at rentals above £16
per annum, the Section of the Act referred to requires
amending so that the rental clause shall include houses the
rent of which are at least £26 per annum.
Of the total number of houses inspected during the year
under the Housing Regulations, 219, or 73 per ccnt. were of
houses let at rentals up to £26 per annum, these being houses
chiefly occupied by the working classes.
The Housing Regulations of the Local Government Board
provide that enquiries shall be made in relation to the
following matters, viz.:—
(1) The arrangements for preventing the contamination of the
water supply,
(2) Closet accommodation,
(3) Drainage,
(4) The condition of the dwelling house in regard to light, the
free circulation of air, dampness and cleanliness,
(5) The paving, drainage and sanitary condition of any yard
or outhouses belonging to or occupied with the dwelling
house,
(6) The arrangement for the deposit of refuse, and ashes,
(7) The existence of any room which would in pursuance of
sub-section (7) of section 17 of the Act of 1909 be a
dwelling-house so dangerous or injurious to health as to
be unfit for human habitation.
(8) Any defects or other matters which may tend to render
the dwelling-house dangerous or injurious to the health
of an inhabitant.
The following statement is compiled in accordance with
the instructions of the Local Government Board:—
