(b) Other Foods.
During the year shops and premises in which meat, fish,
poultry, fruit and other food stuffs are prepared, stored or
exposed for sale have been frequently visited by the Sanitary
Inspector, and the various articles examined.
Food purveyors have been advised to consult the Medical
Officer of Health or Sanitary Inspector at once if they have
any articles of food of doubtful quality.
During the year the following articles were condemned as
unfit for human food, and voluntarily destroyed under the
Inpector's supervision : —
1 sack of shell fish.
1 box of cod's roe.
20 lbs. of bream and hake.
112 lbs. of cod fish.
5 stones of plaice.
6 lbs. of salmon.
1 box (250) herrings.
1 trunk of haddock.
20 lbs. of potatoes.
12 lbs. of apples.
During the month of August complaint was received that
at a small sweet shop the occupier was selling to young
children unsound apples, coated with toffee, and described as
farthing toffee apples. Upon investigation it was found that
the occupier of the shop had purchased a quantity of apples,
the majority of which were unfit for food, but they were being
coated with toffee and sold at a farthing each.
All such articles found on the premises were condemned
and destroyed and the occupier warned.
