site for the erection of Workmen's Dwellings is to be found on the
estate of the Popham Trustees, between Darell Road and North
Road. They have been in negotiation for the purchase of a site,
and the Trustees are now prepared to sell two acres for the erection
of dwellings at the price of £2000 per acre, the Trustees at their
own cost to put the sewers in the roads, to make up the same as
Builder's Roads, and to kerb the footpaths.
A plan showing the two acres referred to will be exhibited in
the Council Chamber.
The Committee recommend the Council to agree, subject to
the approval of the Local Government Board, to purchase the two
acres referred to at the price of £2,000 per acre, on the conditions
above-mentioned.
In the event of the above recommendation being adopted, the
Committee further recommend the Council to authorise the sealing
of a Provisional Agreement for purchase of the land, and to instruct
the Town Clerk to apply to the Local Government Board for their
approval of the site.
The purchase of properties within the Red Lion Street area
from the Trustees of the Toby Estate has now been completed, in
accordance with the instructions of the Council at the last meeting.
There remains, however, the question of completing the purchase
of one cottage, No. 14, Artichoke Alley, agreed to be purchased for
the sum of £160, and the Committee have included the purchase
money and costs of completion in the lists of Accounts recommended
for payment, and they RECOMMEND the Council to complete the
purchase forthwith.
The above Recommendations were adopted by the Council.
