During the Spring an extensive epidemic of Measles
prevailed, and I found it necessary to advise the Authority to
close the Infants' Departments of the Aston Road, Raynes Park
and Morden Schools, and also the Abbey Road School.
Although School closure may not have an appreciable
effect in checking the spread of an infection like Measles in an
essentially urban area like Merton, it provides the careful
mother with a chance of keeping her children away from
infection, and to this extent closure may do some good.
FOOD.
Milk Supply.—The cowsheds are situated as follows
1. Morden Hall Farm.
2. Cannon Hill Farm.
3. Broadwater Farm, Kingston Road.
4. West Barnes Farm, West Barnes Lane.
5.
6 in Morden.
Byedaws are in force under the Dairies, Cowsheds and
Milkshops Order, so as to ensure proper lighting, ventilation,
cleanliness and water supply. Samples of milk have been taken
for the detection of pus and dirt.
Meat.- There are registered five slaughter-houses, and
Bye-laws provide for their cleanliness, water supply, etc. All
places where foods are prepared, stored, or exposed for sale,
such as bakehouses, slaughter-houses and dairies, have been
visited frequently during the year.
Mr. Pointon and your Assistant Sanitary Inspector (Mr.
Thick) visit as far as they are able at the time of the slaughtering
of animals, and surrender of carcases and parts of carcases are
accepted.
