VENEREAL DISEASES.
As requested by the Local Government Board the statistics as
to the local extent of these diseases have been obtained by communicating
with each medical practitioner residing in the district,
asking for a return of cases coming under their individual notice,
with any remarks pertaining to these diseases.
The return shows the total number of cases dealt with locally
during the past year as follows:—
Syphilis 6
Gonorrhœa 3
Total 9
ACUTE POLIOMYELITIS.
No case was notified during the year.
OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM.
Two cases of this disease were notified during the year.
This disease was made compulsorily notifiable in every sanitary
district in England and Wales.
The Local Government Board have, on advice received, stated
that the general notification of this disease is desirable; that a
large proportion of the blindness contracted in childhood is due to
the neglect of proper precautions against the disease.
TUBERCULOSIS.
Eighteen cases of this disease were notified, being eight less than
last year.
The Tuberculosis Medical Officers of the County have been of
great assistance in the diagnosis and treatment in this disease, and
do their best to gain admission to Sanatoria for as many cases as
possible.
