(Special Cases:—Ringworm, 133; Impetigo, 122; other Skin
Diseases, 120).
It will be seen from these figures that a large number of skin
diseases come under observation, and as most of these necessitate
the child's exclusion from school, a considerable loss of grant is
entailed. I believe that if these were treated at a clinic by a nurse
under medical supervision a considerable gain in attendance would
be secured.
Mental Condition.
Of those children inspected at Routine Groups 51 were classed
as mentally abnormal; 49 children were mentally backward, while
2 were classed as mentally defective.
(Special Cases:—Backward, 8 ; Defective, 6).
Speech Defects.
A large number of children inspected had defective articulation,
due to evanescent causes, but 4 children were found who were
stammerers. Nine children were found to have other defects of
speech.
(Special Cases:—Defective Speech, 3).
Deformities.
