namely, Blood Drier, Tanner, Fat Melter or Fat
Extractor, Glue Maker, Size Maker, and Gut Scraper,
carried on within the District, to be an offensive trade.
Fish frying has not been included in this Order.
It is possible to include this trade among offensive trades
should it be considered to be necessary at any future
time. At the present time there is one fried fish shop
in the District. I have visited it on several occasions,
and have invariably found that it is kept clean. It is
well conducted, and does not give rise to any nuisance.
UNSOUND FOOD.
No food of this description was dealt with during
the year.
A memorandum was issued by the Local Government
Board in September detailing the methods to be
employed in investigating outbreaks of illnesses suspected
to be due to Food Poisoning. Where considerable
numbers of cases of food poisoning occur in a District,
the Medical Officer of Health has to report the occurrence
at once to the Local Government Board, and copies of
any special report or reports are to be enclosed. The
Local Government Board will be glad of prompt information
if, for example, one or two members of a household
are suffering in consequence of the consumption of
canned food from a particular tin. Any such case
occurring in the District should be promptly reported
to me so that the necessary investigations can be taken
in hand.
FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ACT, 1901.
The Workshops and Workplaces were regularly
inspected, and they were found to be in a satisfactory
condition. One notice of occupation of a workshop was
received, but the total number of these premises remain
the same as last year.
