Diseases of the Heart.
Occurred in 33 boys and 43 girls, the percentage of boys
affected being 1.3 and of girls 1.8.
Several of the cases were forbidden to drill, and in nearly all
the parents when present were invited to bring the children to the
Friday Clinic for subsequent examination.
Diseases of the Lungs.
In 86 boys and 53 girls, that is, in percentages of 3'3 boys and
2.2 girls, evidence of disease of the lungs was found.
Pulmonary tuberculosis was present in 10 boys and 14 girls,
i.e., percentages of 0.39 and 0'59 respectively.
As in the case of those found to have heart disease, those with
lung and bronchial affections were urged to attend the Clinic at
stated intervals, in order that they might be kept under observation.
In quite a number of instances weekly and fortnightly
weighings were registered.
On reference to the table inset facing page 90, it will be seen
that the majority of lung diseases (bronchitis is included) occurred
in the "entrants" group of children. It will also be observed
that it is in the same group that the great majority of mouthbreathers
is found. The rectification of this defect is of great
importance, and in cases where it was present cards giving
suitable instructions for its correction were handed or sent to
the parents.
Verminous Conditions.
(a) Conditions found at routine Medical Inspection.—These 1
regret to say show little improvement on those found during the
preceding year.

The results for purposes of comparison are best expressed as percentages
