INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
In all cases of Infectious Diseases notified the premises are
forthwith visited by the District Inspector, the sanitary arrangements
of the house with its surrounding conditions are examined,
the drains tested, and where any sanitary defects are discovered,
or stripping and cleansing required, Notices are served upon the
person responsible and the work done under the Inspector's supervision.
Directions are given as to isolation and a printed list of
precautions handed to the responsible person setting forth the
rules to be observed to prevent the spread of infection.
A report of each case containing full details required for the
Medical Officer of Health is prepared by the Inspector. The
Librarian is notified of the existence of any infected premises to
which books from the Public Libraries have been supplied, and the
proprietors of Laundries are informed when any of their customers
have an infectious case in their house. Books from an infected
house are returnable direct to the Public Health Department, and
disinfected by being placed in an airtight chamber and subjected
to S.0.2 fumigation under pressure.
The Head Teachers of day schools, and the responsible officials
of Sunday schools are advised of all cases of infectious disease
occurring at houses where scholars attending their respective
schools reside.
