BOROUGH OF EAST HAM EDUCATION
COMMITTEE.
Mr. Chairman, Mrs. Ford, and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit my Report on the Public Elementary
Schools, the Medical Inspection of School Children and other
duties performed for the Committee during the year 1910.
In accordance with the Education Act, 1907, and the
Memorandum of the Board of Education, the children recommended
for examination are :—
(а) Newly admitted children.
(£) Children about 7 years of age.
(c) Children of 10th year of age.
(d) Those children about to leave school.
During 1909 those children under (a) and (d) were examined,
but last year by attempting to exanrne the children about 7
years of age, and having no further assistance, we were unable
to attend all the school?.
The Board of Education require that not less than three
inspections during the school life of the child will be
necessary :—
(a Newly admitted children.
(б) Children about 7 years of age.
(c) At about the 10th year. And where practicable,
those about to leave school.
To do this work it is necessary to have a full lime Assistant
School Medical Officer. A second Nurse has already been
appointed.
I wish to record the valuable assistance rendered by the
Teachers. The co-operation of the Teachers in this work is most
essential. In one or two instances it has been difficult to make
a Teacher realise the importance of attention to the physical
condition of the child.
