BACTERIOLOGICAL LABORATORY.
The Laboratory is adequately equipped for examination
of blood in Typhoid Fever cases, swabs from throats and
Sputum.
The Medical Practitioners in the Borough are given free
diagnosis, and the number of examinations shows a yearly
increase in cases of sputum. It is also made use of by the
Assistant Medical Officer and the School Nurses where any
suspicious throat cases come under supervision.
An examination of a swab from the throat or discharges
from a Diphtheria patient is always taken before the patient
leaves the Isolation Hospital.
The number of specimens examined each year since the
Laboratory opened is shown in the following table:—
