Gipsies.—Some 246 visits to Gipsy Caravans and Squatters'
Tents have been made. This is a decrease of 26 as compared
with the previous year. On no occasion has it been necessary
to use physical persuasion as the Council's Bye-laws give
power to proceed against the offenders to enforce the provision
of water, etc. No summary proceedings have yet been taken
under the Bye-lavvs. The Gipsies' visits are very short; they
do not feel at all tempted to stay long enough to avail themselves
of the provisions of the Bye-laws.
Dairies and Cowsheds.—There are six registered Cowsheds
and 15 Dairies in the Borough. There is a slight decrease
in the number of Cowsheds and an inerease in the Dairies. It
is evident that it is more convenient and probably more profitable
to have the milk sent in from the country than to keep
cows in the Borough.
225 Inspections have been made and the obligations of the
Dairies, Cowsheds, and Milkshops Order incumbent upon the
vendors insisted upon, which includes good drainage, ventilation,
light, water supply, cubic space, and although the cowsheds in
the Borough might be called clean they require constant
attention.
Trade Refuse.—The collection and disposal of Trade
Refuse under the new system has been in operation since May,
1106 loads were collected. Very few complaints being received.
