The steady fall in the birth-rate, which has been such a
marked feature during recent years, not only in this Borough
but in the whole country, still continues. The birth-rate during
the past year is again the lowest on record, and despite the
increase in population, the actual number of births is also lower
than in any year since 1901.
The following table giving the Population, the number of
births, and the birth-rate for the past nine years clearly shows
this continuous fall
