On several occasions I have had to forcibly remove them,
with the assistance of horses and men under police protection;
but the gipsy is a man who is accustomed to suffer a few inconveniences,
and endures ejectment with good humour, and to prove
that he is in no way offended he quickly returns, frequently
bringing with him a few friends.
Factories and Workshops.—There are 244 Factories and
Workshops on the register, including Laundries, as compared
with 213 for the previous year. They comprise principally
Tailors, Blouse-makers, Shirt-makers, etc. During the year 1907
some 384 inspections were made and 16 Notices served to
abate nuisances and improve the general sanitary condition of the
premises.
The chief nuisances are defective ventilators, internal cleansing,
insufficient water-closet accommodation, and drainage of
floors.
On 30 occasions the Home Office has been informed of
breaches of regulations.
Slaughter Houses.—There are 13 registered and licensed
Slaughter Houses in the Borough, situated as under:—

80 Inspections have been made in order to see that the provisions
of the Slaughter House Regulations were complied with,
