Corporation also own 220 tenement houses. The majority of
these are occupied, 52 at present being let to the West Ham
Guardians for the accommodation of boarded-out children.

Plans have been passed during the year for the following:—
563 Single Tenements
8 Double do.
18 Shops
2 Factories
a total of 591 for the year, compared with 552 during 1906.
FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ACT.
This Act passed in 1901, placed a number of additional
duties on the Public Health Staff of Local Authorities. The
Home-work Order of 1905 further added to these duties.
Sec. 132 of the Act requires that the Medical Officer of Health
shall report specifically every year on the administration of the
Act in all Workshops and Work-places in his district, and transmit
a copy to the Secretary of State for the Home Department.
