ILLEGITIMATE BIRTHS.
These numbered 61, representing 1.6 per cent, of the total
births. The number of illegitimate births in 1906 was 75.
12 of these illegitimate births occurred in the Workhouse. The
Death-rate among illegitimate children under 1 year was 278 per
1,000, while the Death-rate of legitimate children of the same age
was only 100 per 1,000 births registered.
DEATHS.
The number of deaths which occurred in the Borough was
1280 (males 602, females 678). From this total, 12 must be
excluded, being non-residents of the Borough, there were also 236
deaths reported of persons belonging to the Borough, but who had
died in Hospitals, Infirmaries, etc., situated outside it; including
these, but excluding the former, we have a total number of 1504
deaths belonging to the Borough, which gives a nett death rate
of 11.0 per 1,000. As will be seen in the following table, this is
the lowest nett death rate yet recorded:—
