portion of the district above Tudor Road by pumping
from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and subsequently by pressure
from the Arkley reservoir to 5 o'clock, except on
Sundays, when the pumping is to be from 7 a.m. to
1 p.m. The other places to be continued as at present
throughout the district.
This arrangement meets all reasonable demands,
and no complaints of deficiency in domestic supply in
the higher parts of the district are now heard.
Sewage Disposal.—Water-carriage : Numerous
schemes for a reconstruction and remodelling of the
sewage disposal works having at various times been
considered by the Council, it was finally decided to
carry out certain works suggested by Mr. Stephens,
one of the Members of the Council. These works
consisted of opening out and improving the old detritus
tanks at the Main High Level Sewer outfall, and
constructing a drain to carry off the intercepted matters
to a point low down on the Farm, to repair and bring
into use the large settling tank which had for many
years been disused, and to abolish the eight contact
beds and substitute for them four circular percolating
filters, with revolving sprinklers.
Two of the sprinklers are completed and in use,
and the other two are rapidly approaching completion.
