rely on a warranty, but the Court upheld the objection
to its use, in view of the fact that the notice was not
sent within seven days from the service of the summons.

appealed against the decision, and the case was not
disposed of at the end of the year.
The sample of ginger ale was submitted to me by
a resident, and on analysis it was found that the
bottle had also contained a quantity of writing ink.
Careful enquiries were made in the matter, and a
surprise visit was paid to the mineral water works
from which the sample was supplied. It was
found that every precaution was taken to prevent
foreign matter getting into the bottles, and it was
suggested that the bottle had been maliciously
tampered with. It is unfortunate that coloured
bottles are used for the sale of mineral waters, and
this case emphasizes the need for the use of clear glass
bottles for such a purpose.
Petroleum Acts.
Due attention has been given to the provisions of
of the Petroleum Acts, and also to the Orders in
Council with respect to other substances of a like
nature, and to the Regulations as to petroleum used
for light locomotives. All premises on which petroleum
is stored are registered for periodical inspection, and
during the year licences were issued under the
Petroleum Acts in respect of 18 store-places, the
quantities of petrol kept varying from 10 to 2,000
gallons.
