Phthisis.
26 deaths were registered from this disease. For
the previous year there were 22 deaths.
Cancer
Was the immediate cause of eight deaths, the same
number as the year preceding.
Influenza.
This complaint has been somewhat prevalent
during the last three months of the year, although a
certain number of cases occurred during the
earlier months, more especially in February and
March. Five deaths were registered from this complaint
as the primary cause.
Cholera.
A case was reported in August, which I visited,
and found to be simply choleraic diarrhoea; the
patient recovered after a few days' treatment.
It is a question with Medical Officers of Health
as to the policy of including Erysipelas with the
diseases for notification. I believe the principal
reason for doing so has been its association with
puerperal fever and vaccination.
The following table gives the number of births
and deaths, also the birth and death rates, together
with the average for the past ten years.
