ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SANITARY INSPECTOR
FOR THE YEAR 1907.

To the Chairman and Members of the Sanitary Committee,
Gentlemen,
I have the honour of submitting to you my Annual Report of
the work done in the Health Department during the year ending
December 31st, 1907.
INSPECTION OF DISTRICT.
During the year a systematic inspection of the district has been
made, in accordance with the General Orders of the Local Government
Board, and the nuisances discovered during such inspections
have been dealt with in the manner provided by the Public Health
Act, and byelaws in force.
In all, some 1955 visits were paid to premises in connection
with the work of the department, and include visits to Dairies, Cowsheds,
Milkshops, Canal Boats, Common Lodging Houses, ordinary
inspections, visits to houses from which complaint of a nuisance had
been received, visits to works in progress, and to houses in which
cases of Infectious Disease had occurred.
COMPLAINTS.
Sixty-one complaints relating to nuisances in the district have
been received.
Each complaint was duly recorded in the Complaint Book, the
premises visited, and all necessary steps were taken in respect
thereof.
NOTICES SERVED.
As a result of these inspections 277 preliminary notices, and 94
statutory notices were served, of which the following is a summary:—

Total 371
Wherever nuisances were found to exist preliminary notices
were, served upon the person responsible calling attention to the
matter, and pointing out the necessary remedial works. If these
