VITAL STATISTICS.
Births.
The number of Births registered during the year as
belonging" to the District was 221, of which 121 were males
and 100 were females, as against 232 last year.
The Birth Rate for the year was 13.5 per thousand of
population, as against 14.3 last year.
The Birth Rate in England and Wales in 1923 was 19.7
per thousand of population, as against 20.6 last year.
The number of illegitimate births occurring in the
District during the year was 3, giving a percentage of total
births of 1.3, as against 3.4 last year.

DEATHS.
Exclusive of those deaths which occurred in Public
Institutions situated within the District, but belonging to
other districts, the deaths registered amounted to 172. In this
number are included those deaths which were transferred by
the Registrar-General of persons who had died outside, but
who belonged to this District. The number of these deaths
was 44. These deaths chiefly occurred at the Workhouse,
Workhouse Infirmary, and General Hospital at Croydon;
the County Asylums at Brookwood or Netherne; the
Cottage Hospital at Carshalton; and the Wandle Valley
Joint Hospital Board's Hospital at Beddington Corner.
