One wholesaler in the Borough refuses to give a warranty but will pay
the fines or costs should proceedings be taken against the retailer.
Samples taken from the wholesalers at the request of the vendors of
samples J 21 and C 10 were genuine. In the former case a conviction was
obtained and in the latter the retailer was cautioned.
"Appeal to cow" Samples.
A request was made by the vendor of sample B 12 that "Appeal to cow"
samples should be taken from the cows in a cowshed in the Borough. He
stated that he did not obtain his milk from a bulked supply but from the cows
as they were being milked. Samples were therefore taken from 14 cows at
the corresponding morning milking and the analysis resulted as under:-

Of the above samples, 3 samples are deficient in both fat and solids-notfat,
0 samples are deficient in solids-not-fat only, 2 samples are deficient in
fat only and 3 samples comply with the regulations.
The mixed milk of the 14 cows would be satisfactory as regards the content
of milk fat but would be 2-1 per cent. deficient in solids-not-fat.
