in which inquests were held on the bodies of strangers found
within the district, and 5 of the deaths in the Workhouse were
those of persons belonging to other parishes.
There must be added to these figures the deaths of 158
males and 66 females, which occurred outside the parish, but
who belonged to the district. Our total of deaths therefore is:—
St. Saviour 186 .
Christchurch 170
Christchurch Workhouse 8
Outlying Institutions 224
588
Less non-parishioners 13
575
This number favourably compares with 603 deaths last
year, belonging to the district. The death rate therefore
becomes 23-35 per 1,000, and when multiplied by the factor for
age and sex distribution gives a corrected death rate for the
district of 24-44 per 1,000.
According to age distribution the deaths are as follows:—
Under the age of 1 year 165
Between 1 and 5 years 88
„ 5 and 15 „ 18
„ 15 and 25 „ 18
„ 25 and 65 „ 223
65 years and over 76
This gives us a percentage of deaths for each age period
as follows:—
28.06 per cent, of total deaths took place under the age of 1 year.
14.96 „ „ „ between the ages of 1 and 5 years.
